Life360 documents two different switches, and it documents what your Circle sees after each one. It does not describe either as sending a notification. What it describes is a change on their screen.
Pausing inside the app
Life360's Share My Location page, under the heading Location Sharing Off: "When you turn off Location Sharing, other members of your Circle will see 'Location Sharing Paused' under your name. This only affects the Circle you turned it off in. If you are in multiple Circles, repeat the steps above in each Circle you're in."
So it is a label, not an alert — and it is per Circle. Switching it off in one Circle leaves every other Circle you belong to seeing you as normal.
Turning the phone permission off
This is a different switch with a different result. Life360's page for the person watching says: "If a Circle member has turned off location services in their phone settings, you will see a 'Location permissions off' alert message. If they are logged out of the Life360 app, you will see a 'Logged out of Life360' alert message. If a Circle member's app has lost connection, their icon on the map will be greyed out." Again, three different things the other person sees — not three notifications Life360 says it sends.
The one notification Life360 does document
A No Show Alert is set up in advance by another member, on a saved Place. Life360: "No Show Alerts notify you when a Circle member does not arrive at a saved Place by the expected time or if their arrival can't be confirmed because location sharing is off." If someone has set one on you, your sharing being off can produce an alert on their phone.
What Life360 says is still shared
- "Tapping Check In shares a nearby location or one you choose to name."
- "Sending an SOS alert will share your location in every Circle you're in."
- "If you have Crash Detection enabled and a collision is detected, it will share your location with your Circle and emergency contacts."
- "Turning off Location Sharing stops future updates, but it doesn't delete the location history Life360 has already collected."
The full step lists for both switches, on iPhone and on Android, are on the Life360 page of this site.
